CONCERNING THE LIFTING UP OF HANDS
THE BIBLE SAYS
Compiled by Daniel L.
Wakefield
·
Exodus 17:11-13 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel
prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek
prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy;
and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the
other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the
sun. And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
·
Leviticus 9:22 And Aaron lifted up his hand toward the people, and
blessed them, and came down from offering the sin offering, and the burnt
offering, and peace offerings.
·
Nehemiah 8:5-6 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the
people; (for he was above the people;) and when he
opened it, all the people stood up: And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great
God. And all the people answered, Amen,
Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped
the Lord with their faces to the ground.
·
Psalm 28:1-2 Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not silent to
me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the
pit. Hear the voice of my supplications,
when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.
·
Psalm
63:3-4 Because thy lovingkindness is
better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
·
Psalm
134:1-2 Behold, bless
ye the Lord, all ye servants of the Lord, which by night stand in the house of
the Lord. Lift up your hands in the
sanctuary, and bless the Lord.
·
Psalm
141:1-2 Lord, I cry
unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto
thee. Let my prayer be set forth before
thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
·
Psalm
143:6 I stretch
forth my hands after thee: my soul thirsteth after
thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.
·
Lamentations
2:19 Arise, cry out in the
night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before
the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.
·
I Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting
up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
